New Year Resolution’s for All to See.

It is December 30th and it begins… the whole “New Year, New Me” saying that inevitably begins making its appearance around this time. However, I know many, {including myself}, do the famous *eye roll* and think or say out loud, “yeah you said that last year, and nothing changed.”

STOP.

Guess what my fellow friend, you have just began your new year with the same thoughts as you did last year. So let’s switch it up this year, and let’s have New Year Resolution’s that make you want to try a little harder, and dig a little deeper than you ever have before. You do not have to do it alone, either! Be accountable for all your friends and family. If they share with you their new year resolution’s, then help them stick with it. A simple encouraging text or an apple instead of a cupcake will help and it will show that person that you truly care. Well, enough with the lecturing, let’s get to those Resolutions!

  1. Give all you have to the Lord God. eaaaaaasy peaaaaaasy, right? wrong. In order to follow through with any more resolutions, you first have to place Him first. Nothing and no one else. If a quiet time isn’t your style, switch from Drake to Casting Crowns one morning on your way to work, jam out, pray, cry… do whatever you need to do to prepare your heart for the day/week. Take 5 minutes or 45 minutes, but find the time.
  2. Love. Now I am not asking for a cliche Nicholas Sparks’ love, I’m talking everyday, just love. Love the driver in front of you who has been going 20 mph under the speed limit, {I am a fast and furious speed driver, I understand the pain and struggle}. Just take a step back, relax and breath, because have you ever wondered that you were stuck behind this person for a reason? The Lord works in mysterious ways, maybe He is purposefully keeping you from going faster because He is protecting you.
  3. Avoid the negativity. Social Media is full of negativity ranging from PETA’s hate for rodeo to presidential candidates to Steve Harvey’s slip up. Do not be filled with those kind of worldy things, because all they do is

bring

you

down.

So instead of getting in an uproar where your emotions and head override the love you are trying to keep constantly in your heart, get off of it. Lay down the phone, mute the T.V., turn off the computer and walk away. Too often we feel we must feed into all that because “they need to know the truth”, honey, sometimes silence is a more rewarding truth than that blabbering coming from your mouth.

4. Be a little selfish! Yup, you just read that correctly. Take the moment to allow yourself to eat 4 instead of 3 Oreos, maybe not everyday, but you do you boo boo, or go to the gym alone and run on that treadmill till your little legs fall off while you listen to your weird talk show. Go see a movie you have been dying to see. In order to become the best person you can be, you must also sacrifice a little time for yourself. But do this in waves, do not think that the world owes you anything, because, it doesn’t.

5. Work hard. Work hard at everything! Work hard at school maintaining an acceptable GPA. Work hard at work, even if that means avoiding the gossip and focusing on the good. Work hard at opening a jar of pickles, and by golly, you will be the best dang pickle jar opener on the planet. Just work for it all! But do not go around boasting about how hard you just worked opening that jar of pickles, let your humility and silent success’ be your testimony. I promise, they will not go unnoticed, and neither will your attitude about it all.

6. Enjoy this new year. Too often, everyone begins setting these resolutions or goals and then they forget to enjoy the year. Make obtainable goals, utilize every aspect in that, but do not make yourself miserable. There is 12 months, 52 weeks, 365 days, 525,600 minutes in a year, embrace it all. The good and the bad, the hard and the sad, the joyous and the crazy. Remember that this is a new slate, a clean page.

Rid your heart of the black splotches, “though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow” (Isaiah 1:18), become clean and pure again. Begin this new year with a child-like faith.

And remember that everything that happens in this New Year is all apart of a greater plan and purpose that you know nothing about, and you do not understand the path and way that the Lord is preparing you for:

“There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven:

a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot  a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to tear down and a time to build, a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance, a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them, a time to embrace and a time to refrain, a time to search and a time to give up, a time to keep and a time to throw away, a time to tear and a time to mend, a time to be silent and a time to speak, a time to love and a time to hate, a time for war and a time for peace.”     Ecclesiastes 3:1-8
